BBSmates.com is back online after being down for 2 weeks. Bad news is the site is lacking 1 year of user and BBS data. Good news is that Nullvalue put up the new forum system he was working on.

You may have noticed the site was down for a few weeks... You may even notice the site looks different now... a little explanation..
A couple weeks ago we had some nasty ice storms come through the chicago area, knocking out power. I lost power overnight.. In the morning I went to turn my server back on.. BBSMATES1 (the main web/database server) won't boot.. unplug power.. plug it back in.. hit power button... POOF a cloud of white smoke comes pouring out the back of the server like it were some kind of horrible magic trick.. After some hardware swapping I find out not only is power supply gone, but the motherboard is fried and the hard drive won't spin..
To make matters worse, the laptop computer where I kept my backup files had died just a couple weeks before that.. I never had bothered to take a backup prior to the server dying... so I was left with no backup copy of the original website code, or any kind of a recent database backup. The database we're using now is one from over a year ago, when I started work on the beta version of the website. Since I had no copy of the original site code, I am now running the new beta website code. Which is kind of a good thing because it will force me to finally finish this..
So.. my most sincere apologies to those of you who have posted to the forums, added or made changes to BBSs in the last year. All of that data has been lost. Please repost where appropriate.
For now the site is running on my secondary server, until I can get the main server back up. Salute to BBSMATES1 which gave us nearly 7 years of service. BOO to me for in all that time - I never set up a proper backup routine..
